Card and PapersThere are many different paper and cards available on the market ranging from gloss, vellums, hessians, metallics et cetera. It is to be remembered that different paper and cards require different care and use. When stamping on a textured surface your image may not appear as clearly as on a smooth surface, this can be very suitable for some projects. Experimenting and trying new textures and surfaces is the only way to see what is suitable for each of your needs. Gloss and vellum are very smooth and therefore slippery when stamping so greater care not to move your stamp once placed on the surface is needed to ensure a quality image. Card and paper ideally should be stored flat to eliminate warping and curling of edges etc. Some papers such as Mulberry if folded the crease may be removed when using by either wetting the surface and allowing to dry or ironing the paper on a low heat. If you are creating a scrapbook or archival project it is essential to know if your paper or card is acid free to ensure its long life without deterioration. Different cards and paper have different weights these are measured in gsm. An outside card ideally needs to be of the higher level such as 200gsm, where an insert can be used at 80gsm. |
